New WomenStories President
Our new President is Dr. Thelma C. Hurd. She has been an active board member for two years and will be an excellent leader. Dr. Hurd appears in our video Surgical Choices. She opens and closes the video, encouraging viewers to get all the information they can about surgical options so that they can make choices that they will not regret. Also, she introduces each survivor and briefly explains her surgical choice.

Dr. Hurd is a member of the Department of Surgical Oncology/Division of Breast Surgery, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at State University of New York at Buffalo Medical School. She received a BA from Brown University and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Hurd has also held teaching positions at University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Ohio State University. She is the founder of the local chapter of the Witness Project for Buffalo. This national organization for African American women brings survivors of breast and cervical cancer to community organizations and churches to educate them about these two illnesses. Dr. Hurd has recently received a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to carry the Witness Project into the Native American community in the Western New York area.

We thank Dr. Hurd for her continued support and dedication to our organization.
