    Surgical Choices

"I remember very clearly, my surgeon sharing the news with me that the biopsy was positive. She informed me that because cancer had indeed been found in more than one place in my breast, I did not have any options. That breast conservation was not an option.

I would have to have my entire breast removed and in the same breath which was joy to my ears even though I did not understand what it meant, she told me that I could have immediate reconstruction. Now I had certainly never heard the terms, immediate reconstruction related to breast cancer before because Id never had breast cancer but it sounded like I could get up off the operating table with a breast in place and that sounded wonderful to me and so I said I would take it. So I was not given any surgical options, I had to have a mastectomy."
