Does a lumpectomy cure breast cancer as effectively as a mastectomy?

Statistically a lumpectomy is as successful a cure for breast cancer as mastectomy when it is combined with radiation and Hormone Treatment. Its great advantage is that it conserves the breast. You can have a mastectomy later on if you should have a recurrence, but you may never have a recurrence and you will still have both your breasts.
